Correctional facilities are used to deter recurrence of criminal behavior by people but this does not always work. Many people feel that the reason that the prison system is failing because of the luxury of prisons, TV, internet, free food and a place to live. In hope of a more useful approach the focus is now being made on rehabilitation. Rehabilitation instead of prison has been on the rise along as rehabilitation in exchange for shorter sentences. This paradigm shift raises a challenge in how courts are sentencing criminals. The g oal of rehabilitation is the decrease the number of criminal in the prison system. In the early fore of rehabilitation it applied mainly to youths. Creon A Man Of The People - 868 Words

In Antigone by Sophocles, Creon appears to be a man of the people, but he reveals his true self as a merciless tyrant when Antigone buries her brother, Polynices. Creon declares that the state of Thebes has been disturbed by the death of Polynices and Eteocles as he reassures the citizens of Thebes that the country is safe again. Creon dictates that Eteocles, the patriot who defended the city, will be buried while Polynices, the traitor who fought against Thebes, will be left unburied. However, after Creon discovers that Polynices has been buried, he is convinced that the citizens have betrayed him and demands that his guards find the criminal in one day. Creon shouts at his sentry, â€Å"I swear to Zeus as I still believe in Zeus, / if you don’t find the man who buried that corpse, / the very man, and produce him before my eyes, / simple death won’t be enough for you† (345-348). Your Quick Guide to Into vs. In To

Your Quick Guide to Into vs. In To Among the commonly confused word pairings, into and in to are right there at the top. Do you turn in to the driveway or into the driveway? Do you log in to your computer or log into your computer? And does it even matter which way its written since it sounds the same both ways?First, a reviewAs with many of these commonly confused words, the answer to the riddle of which to use often lies in revisiting grammar rules that many of us simply forgot after middle school. For this particular commonly confused pairing, we need to take a look at what makes a preposition and how it functions in a sentence.PrepositionsYou might remember the grade-school textbook graphics of prepositions as positioning words, meaning they were used to show spatial relationships between objects. A cat might be in a window, on a windowsill, under a ledge, stretched around a pole, on a fence, or by a door.Prepositions also show temporal (time-based) relationships. For example, this morning, I had coffee before I s tarted writing, but after my alarm went off. During my lunch break, I read the news until it was time to write again. From that quick review of prepositions youll understand that into is a preposition and is used to show positioning- or more specifically, the literal placement of an object within another object. When you write a letter, you place it into an envelope, and then put the envelope into a mailbox. However, when you were driving along on the street and turned in to the post office parking lot to mail it, it became a situation where into as a preposition didnt fit. Think of into as something being placed literally inside something else. Now, heres the exception to the ruleIt wouldnt be English grammar if there werent some exceptions somewhere to the rules of into being a preposition. Into showing transformation is one such exception. For example, a caterpillar turns into a butterfly. Fairy Godmother transformed Cinderellas rags into a beautiful ball gown. When in and to end up togetherObviously, in and to are also prepositions and can also be used as adverbs. It would follow that there are instances when the two words will be together in a sentence, such as I dropped in to make sure youre okay. In this sentence, to is part of the infinitive phrase to make, so it would be incorrect to combine it with in typographically- even if the ear cant hear the difference. Here are some more examples of in and to being separated in the sentence:Sarah turned her car in to the parking lot. (Note that since Sarah cannot literally be inside of the parking lot and she cannot transform her car into a parking lot, in and to separated make logical sense.)Can you tune in to the radio program next Wednesday at 9 pm?Log in to the admin portal of the website to change your password.A final noteAs with any commonly confused pair of words, taking a moment to consider the grammar rules behind the mystery is the easiest way to make sure youre using each correctly when you write. Some times, all it takes is a quick review of grammar rules you learned in elementary and middle school to choose the best word and once youve done this- the choice is clear.

Communication, Writing and Professional Practice-The report of Essay

Communication, Writing and Professional Practice-The report of Workplace Communication in a large Supermarket - Essay Example Retail organizations, like most other organizations, to a larger extent are dependent on their employees for achieving outstanding success on their behalf. internal communication, may it be between peers or between supervisors and managers, forms a link between the people of an organization, which in the long run serves to improve their productivity. This report analyzes the effect that an appropriate communication strategy has on the performance of the employees of a large supermarket in Australia. The report also attempts to find out which communication processes are most effective in the context of a supermarket setting and tries to analyze the reason for their effectiveness. In most organizations, communications is controlled by a set of rules and norms which may be written down formally in the more centralized organizations, or may be communicated orally and informally in more decentralized work settings. It is essentially these rules, and their perception by the employees of a supermarket, that this essay plans on exploring. Gilsdorf (1998), notes that workplace communication and the rules which govern it, whether they are written, unwritten, formal or informal instruct the employees on how to act and what is expected of them. She also points out that having this knowledge maximizes both their effectiveness and the success of their organization because this knowledge helps these employees improve their performance. However, what is most crucial in making this statement is the fact that any sort of communication practice will only achieve its aim if the employees perceive it to be worthwhile. According to Gray and Laidlaw (2002),research literature confirms that organizational communication has been examined mainly from two perspectives; the first one being the process perspective and the second being the perception perspective. The perception perspective is based

Project - Research Paper Example Time management techniques provide a way to people to get more work done with more efficiency, less mistakes and more accurately. Proper time management helps people save time for their other activities, strong and better relationship, more satisfactory family life and feel less tensed and stressfulness because of workload. These techniques include the following: The first and foremost step in managing time is to be focused. A person knowing his target must know about the procedures that may help him in achieving those targets. There are certain techniques that help individuals in keeping their focus on a particular target without distracting their thoughts and actions because of other goals and plans. The first step that may be helpful is to keep the track of things in writing. A person cannot memorize all the necessary stuff, it is always better to write down the vision, goals, assignments, projects, appointments and important occasions. This is the first step in time management as it allows the individual to keep a track of the things which are required to be incorporated in the plans. This also helps the individual to focus on one task at a time and move on to the next one once it is completed. The next step is to identif y which task worth the time you have. In order to manage the time properly, an individual must identify the unnecessary activities which are resulting in the wastage of time. Time is a limiting factor in our lives; hence it must not be wasted but utilized. Moreover, in order to be focused a person must have a strong vision on the outcome of his efforts. This vision of the completed picture of his goal motivates him on putting his best efforts and staying away from the unnecessary and unfruitful activities of his life. People waste a lot of time because of less of no planning. There has to be a balance between family
